The German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF) was established in 1986 by an agreement between the Ministers of Science of the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Israel. The new flagship grants program GIF Nexus offers a single unified program to fund young scientists and established researchers in parallel tracks. Focal topics replace the recurring cycles by research area. The goal of Nexus is to promote scientific excellence through collaboration between German and Israeli teams of scientists. Eligible research topics for GIF Nexus 2021: Topic a: Life Science Interfaces (It is up to the proposing investigators to determine what the interface is (e.g., big data, AI, physics, chemistry, engineering, ethics etc.)). Topic b: Social Justice and Human Rights All focus topics apply to both tracks of the Nexus program (collaborative and young investigator track).
1. Collaborative track for projects with at least one principal investigator from both Israel and Germany
2. Solo track for young investigators up to 6 years after doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DVM or equivalent)
