SIMULATIONS FOR HIGH-ENERGY PHYSICS - FACILITATING DISCOVERIES

Steffen Schumann

University of Göttingen
Nachmittags

Detailed simulations of scattering processes provided by Monte Carlo event generators form an indispensable tool for the analysis and interpretation of high-energy physics experiments. To facilitate precision measurements as well as new physics discoveries phenomena at a wide range of scales need to be addressed, from the hardest perturbative interactions down to the fragmentation of hadrons. In this lecture series the underlying Monte Carlo methods, physics modelling concepts, and a range of phenomenological applications with a focus on the LHC will be discussed. To fully benefit from the lectures prior experience from a master level particle physics class is desirable.
