Dark Matter Production Mechanisms and their Experimental Probes

The solution of the Dark Matter puzzle is one of the greatest challenges of modern physics. Taking the conjecture that such a solution comes from Particle Physics, I will illustrate the main mechanisms which allow to achieve the amount of Dark Matter of the Universe observed in the Universe. Requiring the correct DM relic density allows making predictions on fundamental parameters of particle physics models featuring DM candidates. Such predictions can be tested against the outcome of dedicated Dark Matter searches at Earth based experiments. I will illustrate some relevant examples of such complementarity between generation mechanisms and experimental tests of Dark Matter models.
