Computers like Brains - Models for information processing

Andreas Baumbach , KIP (Univ. Heidelberg)
Neural networks are, once again, in the focus of the artificial intelligence community. Originally inspired by the dynamics and architecture of cortical networks, they have increasingly strayed away from their biological archetypes, prompting questions about their relevance for understanding the brain. However, their recent dominance has motivated renewed efforts to realign them with their more efficient biological cousins. In this talk, I will discuss ideas, challenges and benefits of information processing in biologically inspired neural networks both in theory and hardware emulation
