Loop Quantum Cosmology (LQC) arises from the application of the foundational principles and techniques of Loop Quantum Gravity to the quantization of the type of spacetimes commonly encountered in cosmology. LQC proves beneficial on two fronts. On the one hand, it facilitates the completion of the quantization program of Loop Quantum Gravity in a mathematically friendly family of spacetimes. On the other hand, it unveils physical predictions of this theory for the early universe, providing a picture for the Planck era of the cosmos and an avenue to test its foundational principles using observational data. This presentation aims to deliver a pedagogical overview of the principles underpinning LQC and phenomenological aspects derived from it.
