The overarching goal of my recent research is to induce light sensitivity in cells. In order to achieve this, we develop new light actuators based on organic molecules that essentially realize abiotic/biotic interfaces able to transduce a light signal into a bio stimulation. In this talk I will review a number of different approaches we explored, reporting both in vitro and in vivo experiments and discussing possible photo stimulation mechanisms.
